Metal is often overlooked in the USA and written off as just death growls, blast beats, and heavy riffs. While we know this is far from the truth, many bands opt for a style that fits into that stereotype. Yet, every now and again a band emerges to go complete against the grain; enter Stellar Circuits.

Hailing from the state of North Carolina Stellar Circuits stands out from the American metal stereotype in a big way with an alternative rock meets traditional heavy metal approach. With their latest single ‘Penny Dreadful’ (from their debut self-titled extended play), the band hits the spot nicely with entrancing clean vocals, deep lyrical content, and a blend of heavy rhythms and melody. In many ways, Stellar Circuits reminds me of a heavier version of Chevelle with a hint of Tool (in the vocal department).  If I lost you with the Chevelle reference let me reel you back in by saying his band may be heavy on the melody, but they also bring a lot to the table with a strong bass presence, atmosphere, and even exhibit a little metalcore flare. I wasn’t expecting with that breakdown or those shrieks at the end, but they fit in just perfectly, and let’s not forget about those technical riffs.

All in all, if you’re looking for a band that doesn’t sound like everyone else then by all means check out Stellar Circuits. These guys bring a lot to the table and will capture the attention of metalheads across the spectrum. At the very least, they’re a great introduction into the world of metal and deserve some attention.
