Review: Gentle Savage – Introduction
Written by Rainer Kerber
Gentle Savage is a new band from the eastern Finnish city of Kuopio. Established in 2015, these musicians are dedicated to Classic Rock / Hard Rock with strong blues influences, and this all shows brightly on this extended play.
‘Bring Back Rock ‘N’ Roll’ combines catchy rock’n’roll melodies with a slight blues attitude. In the refrain, the singing of Tornado Bearstone is underlined by a chorus. A filigree guitar solo is the icing on the cake here.
‘Far Side’ starts with a quiet guitar intro. The song is much harder than the two others on this EP. The singing is a little dissonant at times and there is a strong guitar solo to really make it shine.
‘HeyHeyHeyHey’ reminds me of Southern Rock with the trademarks of Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers Band. Loosely swinging guitars and additional a catchy sing-along chorus make for a fun track.
This is an EP that is really fun. The Finns play their instruments perfectly and shine with a great enthusiasm. Here’s to hoping for a full length album sooner rather than later. 8/10
