Hamburg Metal Dayz 2017 – A Preview
Written by Rainer Kerber
They have now become a good tradition; the Hamburg Metal Dayz in the Markthalle. For the sixth time, they take place this year, as always in the context of the Reeperbahn Festival. Also, this year, the organizer Seaside Touring (inter alia W: O: A, Full Metal Cruise, Full Metal Mountain) has achieved a high-quality line-up for this two-day event (22-23 September 2017). The distribution of the individual bands on the two evenings is already published.
Headliners on Friday will be Sodom, the band around Tom Angelripper (Onkel Tom). The Thrasher from Gelsenkirchen will bring the great hall of the Markthalle to quake. At the same time, progressive rock and doom metal sounds are to hear at the MarX, the smaller stage, presented by Dool, the band around the ex-Devils Blood Members Jab van de Zande and Micha Haring. And we will meet again Clémentine Delauney (Visions of Atlantis, ex-Serenity, ex-Melted Space). The project Exit Eden, in which Clemi is singing together with Amanda Somerville (AVANTASIA, Trillium, Kiske/Somerville), Anna Brunner and the Brazilian Marina La Torraca (AVANTASIA, Phantoms Elite), will be the opening gig of the Metal Dayz. The four outstanding singers promise an extremely melodic prelude. The following bands Walking Dead on Broadway, Any Given Day and Der Weg einer Freiheit are then more for friends of the harder stuff.
The festival will end on Saturday night with the fooling around bards of Knorkator. Finally, I was able to experience Alf Ator and his men live at the second Metal Hammer Paradise at Weißenhäuser Strand. Before that, there is to hear a mixture of thrash and metalcore by the Austrians TuXedo, big rock hits with John Diva and Norwegian folk-metal from Trollfest. For fuss and variety is so cared. The former AC / DC drummer Phil Rudd is honoured as the penultimate act in the big hall. At the end in the MarX Spoil Engine will play – a mix of thrash and death metal that occurred in the past at the time being the last edition of the Metal Female Voices Fest.
Hamburg Metal Dayz are framed in this year of several panel discussions, readings and meet and greets in the Marx and in the foyer of the Markthalle. Traditionally, the makers of the Wacken Open Air Thomas Jensen and Holger Hübner will also answer the fans’ questions.
